Domain Names consist of the actual Domain Name (or some times also called the Organization Name) and the Domain Type. If you consider the example "bbc.co.uk", the actual Domain Name is "bbc", and the Domain Type is ".co.uk". The Domain types can be country specific (e.g. .co.uk or uk.com), or international, i.e. Any Domain Type ending with a ".com" or a ".net".
In some cases certain Domain Types also denote non-profit or charity organizations, these are denoted by Domain Types ending with a ".org".
To choose a right Domain Name you need to consider the following:
- Choose a name that reflects your business type or your company's name
- Choose a suitable Domain Type (based on whether your business is UK specific or international)
- Choose a name that is easily remembered by potential customers
- Do not choose a name that is longer than 20 characters
- Do not choose characters other than alphabetic or "-"
The most important thing to remember is that once a Domain Name is registered then no one else in the world is able to use the same Domain Name. Therefore, if you have a specific Domain Name in mind then it is important that you register it with us as soon as possible, bearing in mind that once a Domain Name is taken then no one else in the world will be able to use it.
